The proposed project for Richmond Road consists of a redesign of intersections, along the Richmond Road and Athens Boonsboro corridor, to restricted Crossing U-Turns (RCUTS). The goal of these improvements is to increase safety and improve traffic flow by reducing the number of left-turn conflict points.

Update (July 22, 2024): The scope of the Richmond Road Improvement Project has been expanded to facilitate the new Soccer Complex currently under development in the southwest quadrant of the Athens-Boonesboro Road/I-75 Interchange. An additional RCUT intersection is being constructed at the main entrance to the Complex at the new Competition Drive in addition to access management improvements at Recreation Drive. This construction is underway with expected completion around August 1, 2024.
